Neuromodulation refers to the intervention that is unique to the TMA. It is modelled on the neuromodulation used in functional neurosurgery where specific areas of the brain are stimulated or suppressed to elicit desired neurophysiological outcomes . Similarly in the TMA, specific areas of the brain are cognitively engaged in the intervention in order to elicit desired neuropsychological outcomes and suppress unwanted mind states. Consequently TMA coaches are referred to as neuromodulators.
